Bernie PEYTON

For the 2011 Autumn Auction, Bernie PEYTON has donated a Polar Bear. Auction date: 29 October 2011

Most of my professional life I have been a wildlife biologist doing field research on endangered animals such as spectacled bears in the Andes. In 1995 I switched careers back to paper art, something I did when I graduated from college. This time it was not painting or lithography that inspired me. When I was 9 years old my step-father Robert Olney gave me Isao Honda’s book on origami and said “here, this might interest you.” Thus began 50+ years of making paper sculpture. The decades I spent observing wildlife enabled me to breath life into my creations.

I have been very lucky to have been an invited guest at origami conferences in Taiwan, France, Spain, and most recently, Colombia. You can see more of my work on my website (http://www.berniepeyton.com) and on Flikr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/eco-origami). With thanks to Nicolas Terry I will have a book of my origami diagrams published next year.

Origami is a great vehicle for sharing and caring. By supporting this effort you will do something very needed, and affirm that there is goodness and kindness in the world. Your origami piece will remind you of that daily.
